Sarah Mead was born and brought up in London, and educated in the South West of England.
She spent three years at dance school in London, where she formed a dodgy dance troupe with Liz Hurley, touring the capital and regularly getting pelted with cabbage.
Luckily, she met Tim Mead and moved to Somerset to become a farmer’s wife.
In between raising four children, she opened the gardens of the family farm in the Yeo Valley, under the National Gardens scheme.
She took the plunge 15 years ago to organically certify the 6.5 acres with the Soil Association and open regularly to visitors as the Yeo Valley organic garden complete with Cakehole tearoom.
In 2021, Sarah supported award-winning garden designer, Tom Massey, to present the Yeo Valley Organic Garden show garden at the Chelsea Flower show. The pair won over the judges with their main avenue design, which incorporated habitats and plants found at the real Yeo Valley organic garden. They were stunned to be awarded not only a Gold medal, but also the Peoples Choice award for 2021.
Since the children became independent, Sarah now works full time as Head of Experience and Brand Editor for Yeo Valley Organic, as well as continuing as Head Gardener. She is fully immersed in all things Yeo and loving every minute of it.
When not working, she still likes to throw some shapes, especially when fuelled by rosé and can often be found bent double in the herbaceous border, with pugs, Ivy and Brenda.
